About Coach B

I’ve always enjoyed sports and outdoor activities such as baseball, softball, hiking, white water rafting and skydiving. However, after turning 40 I found myself looking to expand my fitness interest. March of 2011 was my first "timed" running event as a member of a 4 person marathon relay (26.2 miles) team that participated in the Oakland Running Festival and from that point on running became a passion for me! Later on that year sparked the beginning of what we now know as Team Too Legit Fitness! Our team has grown immensely as we have nearly 1,000+ members! One of the best things to ever happen to our Too Legit Fitness family was the addition of Becky Hernandez, Too Legit Fitness Co-Captain! She's played a vital role in the overall growth, leadership and being a true visionary, inspiring so many along the way. I’ve experienced many satisfying moments and accomplishments involving sports, however, there’s nothing like completing a race/event when family and friends are participating. One of my biggest sources of inspiration and motivation is my younger brother Bernardo who underwent a successful kidney transplant in 2007. We’ve shared some of our proudest moments as siblings participating side by side in fitness events and crossing finish lines in 5K’s, 10K’s, half marathons and challenging obstacle course events such as Spartan and Tough Mudder’s! I get an immense amount of joy and satisfaction by organizing group fitness events and encouraging people to get active and see them appreciate the health benefits by doing so (weight loss, reduced stress, improved level of confidence and more energy). I love the Bay Area and will continue to encourage others to embrace a healthier active lifestyle and having a social impact on the local community for those less fortunate. I've completed 70+ marathons and 400+ timed running events. I lead group track based speed workouts along with middle and long distance training runs. Many of my athletes have gone on to achieve PR's at all distances (5K - marathon).

I’ve spent 25+ year in the hospitality business as an executive, managing hotels. Most recently as General Manager of two hotels in San Francisco. I’ve worked in several key California markets including the mid-peninsula (Burlingame, CA), East Bay (Oakland & San Leandro, CA) and back in my home town area on the Monterey Peninsula. I simply enjoy people and helping them be happier versions of themselves!

About Coach Becky

Becky Hernandez is a certified run coach (RRCA Level 1), certified group fitness instructor, and lifelong “accidental runner” whose journey into running began more than 25 years ago out of necessity—not ambition. What started as a 65-pound weight-loss journey through YMCA group fitness classes in the late 1990s eventually led her to discover running, first reluctantly on a hotel treadmill, then confidently out on roads, trails, and starting lines of races she never imagined she’d run.

Since her first 10K in 2001, Becky has crossed the finish line at more than 200 races—among them 100 half marathons, 52 marathons, and six ultramarathons. A four-time Boston Marathon qualifier, she considers guiding a visually impaired athlete at the 2024 Boston Marathon one of her proudest moments. This experience not only made her a stronger runner but also deepened her empathy. Perspective changes everything.”

Through team training and community, she discovered that running doesn’t have to be a solo sport. Embracing the team mentality transformed not only her running, but her confidence, resilience, and approach to life—helping her navigate major life transitions and challenges along the way.

In 2024, Becky completed RRCA Level 1 Coach certification, officially stepping into a coaching role after years of mentoring, pacing, and supporting runners of all abilities. As a coach, she focuses on meeting athletes where they are, building durability through time on feet, and developing sustainable habits that support long-term health, confidence, and performance. She believes deeply in the power of movement, community, and consistency—and that every runner’s journey is valid, no matter the pace.

A San Jose native and proud Bay Area local, Becky balances coaching with a career in IT management for the County of Santa Clara.
